This is Nooksack Falls. It gets much of its water from glaciers.
In August 2003,30% of the flow was from the Deming
Glacier (Deming Glacier deming.pdf).
Nooksack Falls, shown here during the first week of October 2005 when the
volume of water is quite low. At this time it is likely that most of the water
is from slowly melting glaciers. This is a critical part that glaciers play in
the release of water. If the glaciers melt considerably, then water is not
released slowly, it rushes off the mountains and is too quickly fed back
into the sea causing damage such as flooding and erosion. This results in
a shortage of water for the late summer early fall season.
