Plato's

Crito

 

1. Why is Socrates in jail so long (about a month)?

2. What are some of the reasons Crito gives Socrates for why it would be right for him to break jail and leave?

3. Can the many hurt you? Why does Crito think so? Why does Socrates think not?

4. Socrates thinks it would be wrong to escape. Why?

5. Socrates imagines that the laws come to him, as if they were persons, and speak to him. What do the laws say to Socrates when they come speak to him?

6. Do you agree that Socrates had made a contract with Athens? Why or why not?

7. Do you feel that you have a contract with your home-country? What would the terms of that contract be?
