Assigned readings for

Emanuel Swedenborg's

Heaven and Its Wonders and Hell

You are encouraged to read any chapters of this book that look interesting to you, but the chapters listed below are the required readings

Start with the book's Introduction by Lang because it sets the context for the rest of the book. You don't need to read the entire Introduction, but read through any parts of it that look interesting to you, and then answer the first SQ accordingly.

(If you had the time, the introduction that would really be best for you to read is Wilson Van Dusen's book about Swedenborg and his teachings, The Presence of Other Worlds)

Required Readings

  • Introduction
  • Chapters 12, 13, 15, 17, 22, 23, 27, 28, 31, 35, 39, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 49, 50, 55, 57, 58, 63

Note: There are 63 chapters in the entire book of Heaven and Hell. Each chapter has many different paragraphs (¶) in it. Your assignment is to read the twenty two chapters listed above. (See table of contents for chapter numbers.) One study question will also ask you to read a couple of additional short paragraphs (viz., ¶ 29 and 30)
